Stroke

There are two main types of stroke :

Ischemic stroke - the most common type, occurs when a blood clot blocks the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain.

Hemorrhagic stroke - known as cerebral hemorrhages, occurs when a blood vessel within the skull bursts, resulting in a bleed around the brain.

Causes of stroke

• Being overweight or obese
• Excess alcohol
• Smoking
• Lack of exercise
• Stress
• Poor diet
• Diabetes
• High cholesterol
• High blood pressure

Signs and symptoms of stroke

The main acute stroke symptoms can be remembered with the word F.A.S.T

• Face The face may have dropped on one side
• Arms May not be able to lift both arms
• Speech Their speech may be slurred or garbled
• Time Time to call for help
