FAQs

What is the difference between podiatry and chiropody?

Podiatry is a medical specialism that is dedicated to the assessment and treatment of pathologies affecting the foot and lower limb. Podiatry has its roots in chiropody, which is now an out of date term that does not fully justify the scope of practice undertaken by podiatrists.

How do I know my podiatrist is qualified?

The title 'podiatrist' is protected; this means that only those who meet the criteria and who have the necessary qualifications are allowed to use the title 'podiatrist'.

All our podiatrists have studied for a minimum of 3 - 4 years, and hold a degree in podiatric medicine.

All our podiatrists are HCPC registered; this ensures that they are all up to date with the current podiatric assessment and treatment methods. To find out more please visit www.hpc-uk.org

All of our podiatrists are Members of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists.

If you would like to see any of your podiatrist's certification then please don't hesitate to ask, they will happily show this to you.

What are the payment methods?

At Liverpool Podiatry we require payment for your first appointment in advance of the appointment. Payment for this initial appointment can be made over the phone with a debit or credit card, and you will be issued with a receipt that you can collect at your appointment, alternatively we will send the receipt to you in the post. If you prefer to pay in cash then you can pay for the appointment at the clinic, providing this is in advance of the appointment.

For any subsequent appointments you simply pay on the day, after the appointment. For these appointments we accept cash and cheques only.

Does my insurance cover me?

Liverpool Podiatry is registered with a number of insurance providers. To find out whether you are covered we recommend that you check your insurance policy. For insurance customers we will require your policy number and authorisation code so that we can invoice your insurance company directly for your treatment.

Some insurance companies require you to pay for your own appointments, for which they will reimburse you. In this instance we will provide you with treatment receipts.

How long are treatment sessions?

Treatment times vary according to appointment type:

Do I need to be referred by a doctor or other health professional?

No you do not need to be referred. Anyone can use our service.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes. If you need to re-arrange or cancel your appointment that is no problem, all that we ask is that you please give us 24 hours-notice. If you do not provide us with 24 hours-notice then you will be required to pay the cost of the appointment in full.

What should I wear to my appointment?

For routine appointments simply wear clothing that makes the foot easily accessible. We recommend that you wear socks / hosiery to your appointment in order to prevent slipping if an emollient is applied.

If you have a nail concern we ask that you please remove any nail polish before your appointment.

If you are having a biomechanical assessment please bring shorts with you and a selection of footwear that is typically worn.
